True Blood.
For the second part of this brief I have chosen True Blood as my chosen mini series. True Blood was created in 2008 and aired its last episode on August 24th 2014. Based on the Southern vampire Mysteries series of novels, written by Charlaine Harris, the series combines southern charm and intrigue with the dark fantasy of Vampirism. With the sticky heat of a Louisiana backdrop the series first introduces you to its core characters:
Sookie Stackhouse: Telepathic, sweet, innocent, main character, Tough in her own right, fearless, new explored sexuality. Fairy.
Bill Compton: Southern gentleman, vampire, main character, loves Sookie.
Eric Northman: Bad guy, Bill's nemesis, Likes Sookie, Owns the Vampire Bar 'Fangtasia', Sheriff of area 5 of the vampire states.
Tara Thornton: Strong but vulnerable character, Sookies lifelong best friend, Lafayette's cousin, Tough, Usually the victim of a vampire. Turns vampire later on in the series.
Lafayette: Tara's cousin, Flamboyant character, Strong, Turned witch later in the series. Cook at Merlotte's bar and grill.
Jason Stackhouse: The Lothario, The not so smart one, The eye candy, The mortal Devoted brother of Sookie Stackhouse.
Sam Merlot: Shapeshifter, Owner of Merlot's bar and grill, From the beginning he was in love with Sookie but eventually finds love, sorrow, and heartache else where.
Pam: Eric is her maker and life-long companion. She manages Fangtasia with him. She is harsh but honest and doesn't take grief from anyone. A strong character throughout the series.
Alcide: Sweet natured Wolfe, man that is a good and loyal friend to Sookie. Always there if she needs some back up. He has a bad history with women.
There are many twists and turns and the series reveals more characters of a super natural nature as the series goes on. Its erotic and gory and they have combined this series well with the back drop of Louisiana and the superstitious and magical culture that it is.
I have taken a lot of elements from this series to make my characters blend in and to make their relationship believable. I have used the fairy and half mortal aspect from Sookie, but created a water fairy instead with more powerful gifts to make her an equal to her Vampire. I have also researched the history of Louisiana and their folklore to create a background for both Quentin and Claudia that fits in well with the series and environment.
